Using ready-made fonts:

In addition to the red digital counter, Emulation World has several additional styles ready to go. To use them, just copy the following count.cfg into your directory:

Of course, you are not limited to the fonts we offer. If you would like to use a different set (the above sets are from Digit Mania's pile of roughly 500), copy them to a directory on your site (it is recommended, though not required, that they have their own subdirectory).

To work properly, the images must all have the same dimensions (height and width) and they must be numbered 0.GIF through 9.GIF (that's .GIF, not .gif - Unix is case-sensitive). Once you have them ready, create the count.cfg file:

height=height
width=width
digit_dir="%mine%/subdirectory"

Where height is the height of each digit and width is the width of each digit (any decent graphic editor should be able to tell you those dimensions). The subdirectory is the subdirectory containing the digits.

That's it. The counter should now be using the new images.

By default, counts of less than 100 are padding on the left with zeroes (so 9 hits would show up as 009). This can be adjusted by adding the line
min_digit=size
to your count.cfg. The size specifies how short your counter can be (the default is 3). This does not affect how long the counter can be (so the default has no effect if you have 100 or more hits). Generally 3 - 5 is the optimum padding to use.

You can set the counter to use a different font on multiples of 500,000, to thwart people trying to fake screenshots. The landmark variable has the same syntax as digit_dir, so something like this:
digit_dir="%gbl%/fdb"
landmark="%gbl%/fdr"
would display a blue counter most of the time, but change to red on multiples of 500,000.
