Hello, again. It was a fairly busy week around here, so there's plenty to talk about. As just a minor note, I added a Reply-To header to the mailing list, so most mail programs will respond to the contributor, rather than the mailing llist. We maxed out the bandwith... Neither UltraHLE nor Bleem could do it. NeoRageX quadrupled our bandwidth consumption, eating most of a 10BaseT connection. Many thanks to Atila (Retrogames) and Adrox (Emusphere), among others, who found and/or provided mirrors for those files. Since adding another 10BaseT for these occasional jumps is not worth the money, we installed a bandwidth regulator, which we can enable as needed. That will prevent download traffic from slowing down normal site traffic. We added two new staff members... Joining our staff are graphics guru Darkmazda (dmazda@darkmazda.com) and HTML guru Sharon (sharon@emulationworld.com). WIth their help, we have cut the load time on many of the high traffic sites over the last week. If you need a couple design tips or want to clean up some of your slow loading pages, feel free to talk to them. Remember: It may take NeoRage to max our bandwidth, but most of your visitors are still using modems. Few people have the desire to wait for an 80k logo. We fixed the IRC server... For those of you who don't already know, we have an IRC server available at irc.emulationworld.com. Now that we have DNS pointing to the right box, feel free to use it for staff meetings and whatever else you want. Speaking of meetings... Lev and I will be holding our first Member's Roundtable on the IRC server this Weekend. The first session will be from 11:00 EDT to 13:00 EDT on Saturday. The second will be from 23:00 EDT Saturday to 01:00 EDT Sunday. Although any topic is welcome, CGI requests and reducing page load time will be the major topics. If it goes well, we will make it a regular event. Final Notes... I was hoping to have the new poll script ready in time for this mailing, but the admin portion still needs a lot of work. For a preview, feel free to mess with http://testbed.ztnet.com/poll.cgi . That's it for this week. See you Saturday, -- Brian Systems Administrator, Emulation World
