I must say, things went much better this week. Nothing new on the CGI front this week, but we have plenty of other new features on tap. Good news on the server front... Lev and I looked into several server clustering methods this week. As a short-term solution, we will be experimenting with a program called 'fake,' which will hopefully correct the routing problems we had with the previous method. As a long term solution, we will be using the Coda network file system (running off RAID, of course) and dynamic load balancing. By the time we can afford the extra server and RAID equipment, Coda should be out of the beta stages. Welcome to testlab... We have added testlab.emulationworld.com to the network to explore several possible web server enhancements. Currently installed are PHP3, ASP, and Embedded PERL. Since VBScript and ActiveX are heavily tied to Windows, they are not available for Unix. Here's where you can get some info on each: PHP3 (.php3): http://www.php.net/docs.php3 Embedded perl (.epl): http://perl.apache.org/embperl/ ASP (.asp): ftp://ftp.sedl.org/pub/mirrors/CPAN/modules/by-module/Apache/Apache-ASP-0.09.readme If you are interested in any of these, let me know and I can grant you access to the testing area. RealAudio G2... Also added to the network is ra.emulationworld.com, our RealAudio G2 server. This doesn't require a lot of explanation. Since it is very bandwidth intensive and we only have a limited number of streams, it is only available on request (and subject to approval). Final Note... MySQL is installed and I will be setting it up over the next week, so look for more on that in the next issue. I guess that's it. Until next time, -- Brian
