An eventful week, to be sure. Message boards are done. Like I even need to tell you. Seven sites have already requested boards yet it only got three votes. I'm at a loss to explain that. Well, if you want a fast, feature-packed multi-forum message board, it will be hard to improve on this one. Zophar's Message Domain (http://www.zophar.net/cgiglobal/wwwthreads/wwwthreads.pl) shows off many of the features, although many options are user-defined. Lev or I must create new boards, but you will have free reign over them once created. Dead-link detector is done. It turned out to be much easier than I expected. I mailed lists to a few sites, but I'll send lists to everyone starting Friday and probably repeating every couple weeks. Why ftp was down. FTP went down twice this week and I suppose you deserve to know why. A @#$%)* netizen from casema.net was attempting to hack the root (admin) account on the FTP/Mail server. Of course, you can't directly log in as root on our servers, so he didn't have any luck. However, his 23,000 attempts were enough for the FTP server to drop away as a safety measure. Casema.net is, of course, now banned from our servers. I am also discussing the problem with their staff. The punk's account will be nuked. We do not plan to press charges at this time. And Web 2 went down. I'm not sure if you can call it progress, but at least they don't crash anymore. Sunday's crash was apparently a web-based Denial of Service attack (hit the server with so many open connections that it can not address normal requests). Unfortunately, we were not logging connection timeouts, so the evidence is not as clear as the FTP problem. A little progress on WebUpdate. I have the directory functions finished. I'll be working on the text-box and upload/download functions this week. I guess that's it. Hopefully next week will be better. -- Brian
